On 2 December 2011, the Association hosted a panel debate on
“Key Legislative and Regulatory Developments in the European Insurance Industry
and the Future Opportunities in the Turkish Market” at Swissôtel The Bosphorus
in Istanbul. During the panel debate which was organized to provide the
representatives of the Turkish insurance market with an insight on the latest
developments in the EU insurance industry, the distinguished speakers from the
European institutions and insurance companies shared their opinions with the
participants.
Following the opening remarks by Mr. Mustafa Su, the President of the
Association and Mr. Burhanettin Aktaş, Deputy Undersecretary of the
Undersecretariat of Treasury, the first session on “Key legislative and
regulatory developments in the EU Insurance Industry” was held. During the
session moderated by Mrs. Michaela Koller, Director General of European
Insurance and Reinsurance Federation (CEA), Mr. Gabriel Bernardino, Chairman of
European Insurance & Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) and Mr. Karel Van
Hulle, Head of Insurance & Pensions Unit in the European Commission Directorate
General for Internal Market & Services discussed about the latest developments
on Solvency II as well as other current legislative and regulatory issues in the EU.
In the second session on “Developments in the world insurance market with a
focus on the future opportunities in the Turkish market: Life and pension fund
business” moderated by Mr. Mete Uğurlu, General Manager of Anadolu Hayat
Emeklilik A.Ş, Mr.Volker Stüven , Allianz Head of Global Life Strategy &
Development, Mr.Matt Saker, Aviva Europe Chief Actuary and Mr. Jan Nijssen
Supervisory Board Member of Garanti Emeklilik on behalf of Eureko exchanged
views about the current position of the life business in the Turkish insurance
market and shared their estimates for the future of the market from different
dimensions.
During the third session, the future opportunities in the non-life business in
Turkey were discussed. The session moderated by Mr. Ertan Fırat, General Manager
of Aviva Sigorta A.Ş. was attended by Mr. Donald Gambardella, ERGO International
Chief Actuary and Regional CRO, Mr. Fabrice Lorillon, Head of AXA Brussels
Office Group European and Public Affair and Mr. Toshiyuki Hanazawa, Sompo Japan
Insurance Chief Executive. During the session, the guest speakers examined the
opportunities in the Turkish market from the non-life perspective.

On 22 December 2011, the Association participated to the 10th
OECD Coordination Meeting hosted by the Turkish Foreign Ministry in Ankara. At
the meeting, the Association was represented by Ms. Muge Soysal, International
Relations Specialist. The meeting was attended by the officials from National
Coordination Units and other related institutions.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ecvet Tezcan, Turkey’s Permanent Representative
to the OECD provided information on the latest developments in the OECD as well
as coordination mechanism and Turkey-OECD relations.
In the afternoon session of the meeting, the officials from OECD Secretariat
provided the participants with general information on OECD On-line Information
System (OLIS). During the session, the participants were informed about the
methods for making better use of OLIS.
The Association’s advertising campaign has been announced as
“Titan Awards 2011 Merit Winner” in the TAAN Awards Ceremony held in Miami.
During its 2010 advertising campaign named “Only the Cartoon Characters Don’t
Need Insurance” which aimed at increasing the awareness on insurance in the
Turkish society, the Association used the famous cartoon characters such as Bugs
Bunny, Tweety, Sylvester, Road Runner, Coyote, Foghorn Leghorn. The Association
continued its campaign also in 2011 with a new slogan of “You are not a cartoon
character..Get insured now!”

In the context of its publicity activities, the Association
is organizing a Short Film Competition. The competition will take place between
2 January and 1 May 2012. The theme of the Short Film Competition is “Importance
of being insured and its advantages.”
