On 23 July 2011, the Board of the Association held a meeting
with the officials from the Undersecretariat of Treasury to discuss several
legal matters. During the meeting, the sector opinions regarding the provisions
to be amended in the Insurance Law No. 5684 were expressed. At the meeting, the
revision of Draft Regulation on Insurance Agencies and Draft Regulation on
Insurance Information Center was also discussed by the parties.
On 28 July 2011, the Association participated to the
financial services working group meeting held by the Ministry for EU Affairs in
Ankara. During the meeting, the Association was represented by Mr. Atilla Oksay,
Head of Technical Unit and Ms. Muge Soysal, International Relations Specialist.
During the meeting, the financial services working group composed of the
representatives from the relevant public institutions and NGO’s exchanged views
about the formation of a Draft Sectoral Harmonization Strategy in Financial
Services Chapter. At the meeting, the parties expressed their opinions about the
legislative deficiencies mainly in banking, insurance and securities sectors.
On 4-6 July 2011, the Association participated to several
programmes hosted by the Lloyd’s in Istanbul during the Lloyd’s market development visit
to Turkey.
On 4 July 2011, the Association participated to a seminar hosted by the Lloyd’s
at the Swissotel. Following the opening speech made by Mr. Lord Levene, Chairman
of Lloyd’s, the representatives of the Turkish insurance market were provided
with detailed information about the Lloyd’s market.
On 5 July 2011, the Association attended the reception hosted by the Lloyd’s and
British Consulate in Istanbul. The reception brought together the
representatives of the Turkish insurance market and the Lloyd’s delegation.
On 6 July 2011, the Association held a meeting with the Lloyd’s delegation
composed of the managing agents and brokers at the Swissotel. At the meeting,
Mr. Mehmet Kalkavan, the Deputy Secretary General of the Association made a
detailed presentation on the Association, Turkish insurance market and the
legislative developments in the sector.
During the meeting, the representatives from the Liability, Fire, Marine and
Engineering Insurance Committees of the Association also made presentations on
the related
issues.
