The Association participated to the 84th Session of the OECD Insurance and Private Pensions Committee (IPPC)

On 3–4 December 2009, the Association participated to the 84th Session of the OECD Insurance and Private Pensions Committee at the OECD Headquarters in Paris. The Association was represented by Dr. Berna Ozsar Kumcu, Responsible for EU & International Affairs and Mr. Atilla Oksay, Head of Technical Unit.

On the first day of the meeting, during the morning session, the financial turmoil and its impact on the insurance sector and natural catastrophe risks were discussed. In the afternoon session, financial education was examined.

On the second day of the meeting, sessions on developments in the Indian insurance sector and corporate governance were held.

Member country delegates and several specialists from related institutions attended the 84th Session of the IPPC Meeting.

The Association participated to the CEA Single Market Committee Meeting

On 9 December 2009, the Association participated to the CEA Single Market Committee Meeting. At the meeting, the Association was represented by Ms.Muge Soysal , Assistant EU and International Affairs Specialist.

In the first part of the meeting, Financial Attaché, Spanish Permanent Representative to the EU, made a presentation on the priorities of Spain in the field of financial services during the EU Presidency.

At the meeting, developments regarding packaged retail investment products (PRIPs), financial education and the future of the block exemption regulation and anti-discrimination in the financial services were also discussed.

The Association participated to the CEA Consumer Protection Conference 

On 10 December 2009, the Association participated to the CEA Consumer Protection Conference, which brought together delegates of national insurance associations, experts and other interested parties. During the meeting, the Association was represented by Ms.Muge Soysal, Assistant EU and International Affairs Specialist

Following the opening speech made by Mr. Tommy Persson, CEA President, the session on “Meeting consumers’ information needs in life insurance” was held. During the session, the speakers exchanged views on the importance of providing information to the consumer in the pre-contract term.

In the second part of the conference, the session on “ Insurance guarantee schemes” was held. The speakers examined the alternative guarantee schemes and their application.

In the final part of the conference, presentations on alternative dispute resolution were made.

The Association participated to the Panel on “Liability Insurance in Air Transport”

On 19 December 2009, the Association participated to the panel on “Liability Insurance in Air Transport” held in cooperation with Insurance Law and Aviation and Space Law Commissions of the Istanbul Bar Association. During the panel, the Association was represented by Mr. Huseyin Arslan, Legal Affairs Specialist. In the first session of the panel, speakers provided information about liability insurance in air transport. During the second session, different aspects of liability insurance in air transport were examined.

The Association participated to the Symposium on “Solvency II”

On 3 December 2009, the Association participated to the symposium on “Solvency II” held by the French Insurance Association (FFSA) in Paris. At the symposium, the Association was represented by Mr. Onur Acar, Responsible for Fiscal and Financial Affairs.

Following the opening speech made by Mr. Bernard Spitz, FFSA President, Mr. Karel Van Hulle, Head of Insurance & Pensions Unit in European Commission Directorate General for Internal Market & Services, Mr. Gabriel Bernardino, CEIOPS President and Mr. Jean Paul Gauzes from the European Parliament provided current information on Solvency II. During the symposium, the representatives of the insurance companies discussed about the Solvency II studies conducted at the company level. At the symposium, the efforts of the European Commission for hardening the capital requirements in the aftermath of the financial crisis were also examined.

Workshop on “QIS 4” was held

The Specialized Committee on Solvency II established to formulate a road map in order to overcome the obstacles in Turkey’s alignment with the new directive continues its work. In this framework, on 8-9 December 2009, a workshop on Quantitative Impact Study (QIS 4) was held for the representatives of the companies at the headquarters of the Association.

At the workshop organized by the Ernst & Young, experts provided information on how to fill in QIS 4 tables in life and non-life activities.

The process on “The Annulment of Administrative Sanctions” was examined

On 22 December 2009, a meeting on “The Annulment of Administrative Sanctions” was held at the headquarters of the Association. During the meeting, the process of annulment of administrative sanctions regarding late payments of insurance companies under the provisions of Motorways Traffic Law was examined.
